THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
The older I get, the harder it is to lose weight.
It seems my body and my fat have become good friends.
And it’s hard to separate them!
A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly:
and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
Light from the WORD.
To have friends, one must be “friendly.”
Funny thing about that word.
The Hebrew for “friendly” is ra’a’ (pronounced: raw ah’).
The meaning of this word is “to spoil,” or, “to ruin.”
Perhaps the interpretation concerning the first half of that verse above
could go like this. "A man with friends ruin(s) self."
To me, that makes the last half of the verse more understandable.
And, the latter half of the verse says,
“There IS a Friend that sticks closer than a brother.”
That One is JESUS!
He came to “spoil,” or “ruin” Himself for our sakes!
He yielded Himself to the death of the cross to win our friendship!
And that Friend will "never leave thee, nor forsake thee!" (Heb 13:5)
WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS!
