THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

This program of daily devotions is designed to take you through the Bible in three years. It is our desire to help you gain a better general understanding of God's Word.

Please understand that in a study this brief, we will be concerned with only the major emphases and context of the Scriptures.

Each day a devotion for one or two chapters is posted, beginning with chapter one of Genesis and going through chapter twenty-two of Revelation. You are free to print each page as it appears. If you miss a day, you may contact us and request that devotion. Please send your request, along with $.50 (p&h) for each page to:

CHAPTER 34

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land of Canaan; (this is the land that shall fall unto you for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan with the coasts thereof:)

In this chapter, Moses is given the MAP of Israel's new country. In the
following verses God details the specific borders of this new nation. Their
goal is to take ALL the land within the described perimeter.
((At this point you might want to consult the back of your Bible and see a
map of Israel in Joshua's time era.))

3 Then your south quarter shall be from the wilderness of Zin along by the coast of Edom, and your south border shall be the outmost coast of the salt sea eastward: 4 And your border shall turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim, and pass on to Zin: and the going forth thereof shall be from the south to Kadesh-barnea, and shall go on to Hazar-addar, and pass on to Azmon: 5 And the border shall fetch a compass from Azmon unto the river of Egypt, and the goings out of it shall be at the sea. 6 And as for the western border, ye shall even have the great sea for a border: this shall be your west border. 7 And this shall be your north border: from the great sea ye shall point out for you mount Hor: 8 From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad: 9 And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the goings out of it shall be at Hazar-enan: this shall be your north border. 10 And ye shall point out your east border from Hazar-enan to Shepham: 11 And the coast shall go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain; and the border shall descend, and shall reach unto the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward: 12 And the border shall go down to Jordan, and the goings out of it shall be at the salt sea: this shall be your land with the coasts thereof round about.

The description given is of Israel's borders on the WEST side of Jordan. A general
description of Israel on the EAST of Jordan was given in Numbers 32:33-42.

13 And Moses commanded the children of Israel, saying, This is the land which ye shall inherit by lot, which the LORD commanded to give unto the nine tribes, and to the half tribe: 14 For the tribe of the children of Reuben according to the house of their fathers, and the tribe of the children of Gad according to the house of their fathers, have received their inheritance; and half the tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance: 15 The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side Jordan near Jericho eastward, toward the sunrising.

The nine and one-half tribes would receive their land WEST of Jordan according to
the description given in verses 3-12. The land was to be divided by "lot" for location
and by "number" for size.

16 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 17 These are the names of the men which shall divide the land unto you: Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun. 18 And ye shall take one prince of every tribe, to divide the land by inheritance. 19 And the names of the men are these: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 20 And of the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel the son of Ammihud. 21 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. 22 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Dan, Bukki the son of Jogli. 23 The prince of the children of Joseph, for the tribe of the children of Manasseh, Hanniel the son of Ephod. 24 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Ephraim, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. 25 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Zebulun, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. 26 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Issachar, Paltiel the son of Azzan. 27 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Asher, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. 28 And the prince of the tribe of the children of Naphtali, Pedahel the son of Ammihud. 29 These are they whom the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance unto the children of Israel in the land of Canaan.

Joshua and Eleazar are to oversee the rightful division of the land. And God
appointed the leaders of the tribes to be with Joshua and Eleazar as they land
was divided.

This brings up a GREAT DISCUSSION!

God KNOWS who we are before we are born. And He knows the places we will go.
"And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the
face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the
bounds of their habitation;" (Acts 17:26)

God's PURPOSE and design of GRACE is DIVINE ELECTION.
"That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him,
and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:" (Acts 17:27)

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us
with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he
hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be
holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the
adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure
of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us
accepted in the beloved." (Ephesians 1:3-6)

GRACE has always been the way God has worked toward mankind. He designs
things beforehand so that we might have an opportunity to KNOW Him, and
thereby to be SAVED.
"For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon
all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how
unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" (Romans 11:32-33)

God realizes that man is a sinner and in need of redemption. God also realizes that
man's heart is "desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9), and that men in sin "will not
seek after God:" (Psalm 10:4). With immaculate and impeccable wisdom, God intricately
designs the "habitations" of man. And He does it with GRACE in the forefront in order
to give those who will repent and surrender an opporunity to HEAR His CALLING.
This in NO WAY interferes with the "free choice" of man.

AIN'T GOD GOOD?!?!
