THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

This program of daily devotions is designed to take you through the Bible in three years. It is our desire to help you gain a better general understanding of God's Word.

Please understand that in a study this brief, we will be concerned with only the major emphases and context of the Scriptures.

Each day a devotion for one or two chapters is posted, beginning with chapter one of Genesis and going through chapter twenty-two of Revelation. You are free to print each page as it appears. If you miss a day, you may go to the archive below and find it.

Psalm

CHAPTER 86

1 A Prayer of David. Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy. 2 Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee. 3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.

This song is a prayerful request for God to hear and show a "token for good" to David (see verse 17).

Notice that David says he is "holy" (verse 2). The reason he knows he is holy is because he has placed his TRUST in God! We are certainly unholy beings because of our constant sin. But when we surrender ourselves to Christ, God looks at us through HIS BLOOD! And He considers us HOLY! It's good to KNOW that fact!

Not only has David placed his trust in God, but he also prays to God every day (verse 3).

My friend, when you KNOW you have given yourself totally to our Lord, and you are striving to do as He directs through His Word, you can DEPEND on the fact that you are "holy" in His eyes! And you can depend on the fact that He WILL answer your prayers!

4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 5 For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

The rejoicing in a saved person's soul is because God, in His great mercy is always "ready to forgive!"

Knowing that God will forgive our sins when we come to Him confessing and pleading, is a great JOY! ((see 1John 1:9))

6 Give ear, O LORD, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.

When we "dial up" God with confession of sin and pleading for forgiveness, then we can KNOW that His line is NEVER BUSY! He WILL ANSWER!

8 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works. 9 All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name. 10 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.

As I have said before, God IS!! Among all those things and people purported to be god, He is the ONLY One Who really IS!!

This God, Whom David knew as Jehovah, is Jesus Christ. There is no denying His revelation of that fact in this Bible. God came in His only "Son" - His only body. He gave His only "Son" to die on a cross for our salvation. His only "body" was put to death, placed in a tomb, and then resurrected by HIS OWN POWER! This God is LIFE! And knowing Him and doing His will is REALLIFE to you and me!

11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. 12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. 13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

Therefore, we should yield ourselves to Him and beg Him to "teach" us HIS WAYS. We should commit to "walk in" HIS truth!

And we should commit to praise His Holy Name, because He is the ONLY GOD Who has offered salvation from an eternal death!

14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them. 15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. 16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. 17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me.

The world of people will desire DEATH to those who strive to present LIVING TRUTH by which men should govern their lives.

Only God Himself can deliver His saints from the plots of men.

David is pleading for God to show him a sign that he will be delivered and allowed to live for God. Christians should be pleading for the same thing!

God will help, comfort and deliver His people in HIS way and in HIS time!
