THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

This program of daily devotions is designed to take you through the Bible in three years. It is our desire to help you gain a better general understanding of God's Word.

Please understand that in a study this brief, we will be concerned with only the major emphases and context of the Scriptures.

Each day a devotion for one or two chapters is posted, beginning with chapter one of Genesis and going through chapter twenty-two of Revelation. You are free to print each page as it appears. If you miss a day, you may contact us and request that devotion. Please send your request, along with $.50 (p&handling) for each page to:

Isaiah

CHAPTER 27

1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. 2 In that day sing ye unto her, A vineyard of red wine. 3 I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day.

Again, we have the term "In that day," which refers to the day that God purges the earth of those who refuse to surrender to Him.

It will be in "that day" that God will also punish the devil - "leviathan the piercing serpent." Satan will be bound for the 1,000 years that God in Jesus Christ will reign on the earth (Revelation 20:2).

And also in "that day" God will restore the remnant of Judah as a "vineyard of red wine." God Himself KEEPS a remnant of them even to this day! And He will continue to keep them until "that day."

4 Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together. 5 Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me. 6 He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit.

God is not full of FURY against those who refuse Him. He is full of GRACE and offers even those who hurt His people a chance for salvation through repentance (2Peter 3:9). God OFFERS peace to those who will come to Him seeking peace (verse 5).

But neither does God allow the people who refuse Him to totally destroy those whom He calls His (verse 4). God can destroy any enemy that comes against His saved. And He will do so in order to keep that remnant in the world today.

In a sense, the prophecy of verse 6 had already been fulfilled. The Hebrew people gave birth to Christ and to Christianity. And the Christian people have certainly blossomed and filled the world with FRUIT.

However, Judaism will one day "bud" and will blossom in its own confessing Jesus Christ as Lord of all!

7 Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him? 8 In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind. 9 By this therefore shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this is all the fruit to take away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, the groves and images shall not stand up. 10 Yet the defenced city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof. 11 When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour. 12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.

Indeed, the Hebrew nation has been "smitten" by the Lord God. He has taken them out of their land and reduced them to captivity and servanthood. Yet God has also allowed them to return to their land and flourish.

God has done these things in punishment in order to turn them back to Himself. He will continue to do that same thing, until one day they will turn fully to Him through faith in Jesus Christ.

God will continue to chastise them for their UNbelief; but He will never forsake them because of His covenant.

Even though Jerusalem was once laid waste, it has been refurbished. The "defenced city" was indeed made "desolate (verse 10)." Yet, it shall be in that same place that they will flourish again and "there shall the calf feed..."

God will not show them COMPLETE favor until they completely turn to Him (verse 11).

But one day they shall!!

13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

Again, there is that term "that day." It will be the day when Christ comes to reign for 1,000 years on earth that ALL the Hebrew people shall fully turn to Him. A "GREAT TRUMPET SHALL BE BLOWN!" And all of the nation of Israel shall be called to Jerusalem.

Friends, one day it IS going to happen! For now, many Hebrew die not believing Christ and will suffer eternal hell. But one day, ALL of that "remnant" which God has been dutifully keeping by His mercy and grace will come to Christ!
